Invisalign Clear Braces

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign clear aligners are a set of removable, custom-made, transparent trays that snap-fit onto your teeth and apply constant but low magnitude forces on them to move them into the desired position without causing discomfort. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is inconspicuous and since all of its edges are smooth, Invisalign doesn’t hurt the soft tissues of your mouth.

Who can get invisalign?

Your dentist at Morris House Dental Surgery will decide whether you are a candidate for Invisalign. Although most of the cases of crowding, overbite, underbite and crossbite can be treated by Invisalign, it cannot correct the bone discrepancies. Large gaps between teeth and abnormally aligned jaw bone will require traditional orthodontic treatment and even surgery to correct them.

What is the procedure to get Invisalign?

Step 1

Your dentist at Morris House Dental Surgery will evaluate the severity of your problem which will involve taking radiographs such as an OPG and lateral cephalogram.

Step 2

Once a complete examination is done, your dentist will perform a smile assessment using digital images to demonstrate what you should expect from the treatment.

Step 3

Once you have decided to go ahead with the Invisalign treatment, your dentist will take measurements of your teeth and gums and send them to a dental lab for the construction of your Invisalign trays.

Step 4

Once you get them from your dentist, you will be expected to wear them for at least 22 hours a day for two weeks or as suggested by your dentist. You will have a follow-up appointment every 3-4 weeks for the assessment of your progress.

What are the benefits of Invisalign over braces?

An Invisalign is any day better than getting braces. The most eminent advantage that the Invisalign has got over braces is the esthetics. In the present time, Invisalign is the most esthetic orthodontic treatment. Even tooth-colored braces are visible if someone gets close to the person wearing them but, to make out that a person is wearing Invisalign, you will need to have an eagle’s eye. Of course, there are other advantages of Invisalign over braces such as the comfort factor. For instance, oral ulcers are not uncommon with braces whereas Invisalign poses no such problem. Moreover, Invisalign is removable which gives you the flexibility to take them off before eating foods that may cause its staining. Invisalign has a shorter treatment time and quite spaced-out appointments.

Taking care of your aligners

Since your Invisalign trays are going to be the future retainers as well, once the treatment is over, you will have to follow the instructions of your dentist at Morris House Dental Surgery diligently, for taking care of your clear aligners. Remember to take them off before you have anything that might stain your Invisalign trays and make them visible. Avoid exposing your trays to excessive heat, strong sunlight, or chemicals. Always clean them with the toothpaste and toothbrush that you use. Avoid dropping them or losing them. If they get lost or break, the treatment time will elongate since you will lose time while the trays are being fabricated in the dental lab.
